Girls Soccer Rankings: Despite upsets, top 25 stays steady, seven join area code ranks

There were two big upsets that affected the HighSchoolOT statewide top 25 girls soccer rankings, but not as much as you think.

Manteo fell 3-2 to a pretty good J.H. Rose team and West Henderson lost 1-0 to a pretty good Asheville team.

Earlier in the year, they might have fallen out. But considering it's May and these were their first losses (to in-state schools in the case of Manteo) of the season, they remain in the top 25.

Chapel Hill slid into the top five and Hoggard and Cardinal Gibbons replace Manteo and West Henderson in the top 10.

Manteo fell to 20th and West Henderson to 23rd.

There was only one new team to the top 25 as East Lincoln was bounced after one week for Providence, which was last ranked six weeks ago.

There were seven new teams in the area code top 15s.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on every Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
