99.9 The Fan's Adam Gold says that the Canes are in a great position, leading the Islanders 3-1 heading into Tuesday's Game 5. He says that the Canes are still waiting for their high-danger offense to emerge.
All right before we get to Tuesday and Carolina's opportunity to end the series in five games and move on to face probably the Rangers, but who knows when we're gonna get to it considering we have to wait for all the other series. Anyway, let me just address the dread that's going on. The Hurricanes are 31 up in a series that was probably going to be tight anyway, even though the Hurricanes had a three nothing lead in the series. If we're being honest, the Hurricanes really hadn't played like a team that was going to be three up in the series. They only played about 2.5 periods the way they want to of the first nine and yet they were 30 up games one and three. Those were toss up games that could have gone either way. Interestingly enough, the best game Carolina played was the one they were trailing three nothing in after a period and a half. So everybody just take a deep breath. Carolina still hasn't gotten really to their offense again. Other than about maybe three of our 13 periods in this entire series, Hurricanes have not been dynamite offensively. They've been for the most part, excellent defensively, which is really their mo anyway, but Carolina's offense over the last three, four months of the season had kind of taken itself to a pretty good level. Certainly the power play and the Hurricanes have four power play goals. Of course, they've allowed two power play goals to the Islanders who are kind of a middling power play. So, is that cause for alarm? No, because our players are going to score. Uh, but I mean, you'd like to see Carolina kill them all off, right? Uh But the truth is is that the Hurricanes high danger offense hasn't quite gotten there yet. So when that happens, I think you'll see a different Hurricanes team, but right now 31 up heading to Tuesday, that ain't a terrible spot. Frederick Anderson has played great. The emergence of Seth Jarvis as a go to goal scorer has been awesome. Andrei Veni has had a wonderful first four games of this series. I think Carolina just wants a little bit more offensively out of aho gensel terrain, naches others, but right now Hurricanes are in a pretty good spot even though they are three, only 31 up in the series. That's right. Only 31 up injury woes. Yes, for Foss isn't gonna play again, not in this, uh not in this postseason and we're hoping that Brett Pesci can come back. They're saying lower body, they're saying that he could return and play through whatever is bothering him. Uh, but, you know, call me skeptical the non contact injury, those things are never good. Hopefully, Carolina can get him back. Tony d'angelo has played very well though, in the two games he's had to play. And honestly, Carolina's defense hasn't really looked worse for wear, uh, because Slavin and Burns Orloff and Chatfield especially have been absolutely dynamite. The truth is, statistically speaking, Dimitri Orloff and Jalen Chatfield kind of look like Carolina's best defensive pairing so far in this series again, matchups are different, but, uh, it's good to know that Rod Brindamour doesn't have to worry if number seven and number five, their third pair are caught out against other teams top lines. Those guys have more than held their own. Tuesday 7, 30 Cannes Islanders game five, one note last year, these two teams played a game five at PNC Arena with the Hurricanes one game away from clinching and they didn't, let's not go back to Long Island. We don't need to have that. Let's end the series in five games and then see what happens in the next round. Cool. All right, everybody take a breath. Not must stay.
