Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour talks goaltender changes, special teams and being down 2-0 exclusively with WRAL's Kacy Hintz before Game 3 against the New York Rangers.
I sure am Deborah. Thank you so much, coach. Thank you so much for taking the time. Let's start with the lineup changes you're going to make tonight. I know you want to give Freddie some rest here. Pyotr Chekov is going in. You have no concern about the rest he's had. But what do you like about his game when he does come in? Net? Well, listen, he's a quality goalie as well. And you know, Freddie for us here for a lot of games in a row and, you know, I think he was at his limit and we need to give him a little breather and we have, we have all the faith in the world with co and he put a lot of energy, a lot of passion and we know he's a good goal and that's, that's why we made the change. Two words. I know everyone is tired of hearing special teams, but you and I both know that's been the difference there in the first two games. Let's specifically talk about the power play rangers giving you plenty of opportunities. What has to be different tonight. We just got to connect, I think we got to be a little more hungry around the net and get more pucks there. I think we had opportunities in the first game. We had two goal posts and last game, Marty Nas and C Bass have a one on one with the goalie that ended in overtime and just haven't been able to push through and we just got to find that little bit extra here tonight. Something that can't be overlooked. The game has been so good. Five on five, these teams have been so tight a line that's been good for you ached. I think six points in game two. What about their skill sets? Just kind of compliments each other finally got rewarded. They really played well all the playoffs and didn't really have that look like a dominant game, but they were all over it the other night when you put three guys together like that, they're good players, but they compete and it was great to see them on the score sheet because we need them. They're our best players. They got to get on there. Finally, this is a veteran group. They've been in this position before. All the confidence in the world in that group. I'm sure you don't have to give them any sort of a message. I never do to be honest. I do because it's my job, but I really don't have to. We got quality character people in here and at the end of the day I know we're going to compete and compete hard and give our best and that's all you can ask. Thanks so much. Good luck tonight. Thank you. All right, Gerald Debra. We will send it back to you guys.
