Hurricanes' Jarvis: 'Happy to be back home and excited to get it going here'
Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis talked to the media between Game 2 and Game 3 of the Hurricanes' playoff series with the New York Rangers. The Rangers lead the series 2-0.
Sorry, what's the mood of the team? Now? I'm going into two games. Uh, I mean, yeah, um, obviously you want to kind of grab one on the road at least, but I think everyone's excited. We're, we're happy to be back home and we're just excited to, to get it going here. What do they do that? Um, I think knowing how threatening their power plays and stuff, just making sure you don't wanna, you wanna take any kind of stupid penalties and, and give them a chance. But, I mean, yeah, like you said, they're super talented fast and they, uh, they kind of wait for you to make a mistake, which is, which is always kind of tough to play against it on the hill the times to pressure, you know, obviously they move the P up. Yeah, they, they, I mean, they have probably one of the best passers, uh, in the NHL and Panarin and then Fox up top. So it's tough to, it's tough to con convince yourself you want to go pressure them and, and go race out there. But it's something that I think last game we did a better job at uh, opposed to the first game and, um, just something we got to keep building on and trusting in our, in our what got us to this point with you guys. Yeah, I mean, I think anytime you kind of go through a little bit of a, a dry spell, especially now you just want to see one go in no matter how it goes in, whether it's a set player or bounces off three shin pads and goes and you just want to see it go in the net and that's what we need. And, uh, I think it all starts to shoot in the puck more. Do you look at history at all or does that not matter? Like there's other teams even this year who have been down two? Oh. Do you look at that and, and find solace in it or do you not care? I don't really care. I think, uh, we just worry about what's in our room and history is obviously can repeat itself, but we've, uh, we know two years ago they were down 20, and they came back. So we, uh, we haven't lost any confidence in our room and we're just, uh, we're just excited to get it going at home. Are you able to easily stay with the game you play when you take a beating like you've taken? Yeah, I'm not smart enough to change my game, so I just, I just kind of keep going. Uh, it keeps me engaged, uh, mentally. I think when you take a few hits like that, especially, uh, in the first game that those two I took back to back, kinda, got me going a little bit more, got me engaged in the playoff series. And I mean, um, like I said, I'm not smart enough to change my game and I'm, I don't plan on it. I know it might not be the right opinion and you try to block out as much noise as possible. But when so many fans are calling for change and they're getting frustrated with the results, like Rod being the coach, I mean, what do you have to say to fans who, when knowing that Rod is your guy? Yeah, I don't know why anyone would want anything different other than Rod. I mean, ever since he's been here, we've, I think he's made the playoffs every year. He's, he's made good pushes and we're just slowly making strides. So I think, uh, I think I find it kind of stupid. Anyone would want anything other than Rod. You such a good game. Yeah, there's a ton of good parts of our game that we need to keep going. Like you said, five on five has been been pretty good, uh, especially last game, I think we really, we kind of found it and, and, uh, had a lot more success. So just it's tough to stay positive sometimes, but there's a, there's a lot of good things going on in our game right now. Yeah, terrible has been terrible. Has been great, especially I think the way he's been able to control the puck and, uh, and hold on to it, it's been, it's been really special and, uh, Steeler using his big body, he had a few chances last night to stay into the net driving of the hole and, uh, and creating opportunities off it. So it's only a matter of time before we start connecting again. But, uh, it's nice to see that we're creating chances and that's what you can ask for. Yeah, I, yeah, that one, that one sucked. It was, it was close. Uh, I definitely watched that one over a few times just to see what, what I could have done differently, maybe just take it to the back end. But, I mean, that's the kind of situation, uh, with a little bit of back pressure and, and, you know, the goal is sliding over pretty hard. I was, I was pretty happy with my shot. It almost squeaked through, it just kinda, just kinda died, uh, died in the middle of the crease when you watch the awful. It's going well. What are you about? I think just the different aspects each guy brings, I think, uh, I don't know if I might have been against his first goal. He saw Vey just kind of controlling the puck using his body and, and skill just kind of dictating the pace in the ozone and then having a guy like fishy who can, who can find players and when he gets to the puck knows, knows where it's supposed to go. And then again is obviously an unbelievable finisher. So being able to have three guys that can kind of do their own thing, but all work really, really well together. Uh, it's nice to watch, do you guys scratch your head as much about the officiating as fans watching it and trying to figure out what, what's, don't know what I mean. Yeah, it's a little weird but I mean, it's, you gotta kind of expect it a little bit. So it's, uh, it's something we just gotta be prepared for and, and gotta learn how to live with. The series is clearly more physical than the last series and their power play is obviously such a weapon. Does it become difficult to become engaged at that physical level that you wanna be at that? Maybe you even revel because you don't wanna put them on the power play? No, I think physically they're not calling a ton of like r like, unless it's blatant roughing and stuff like that. So it's not hard to stay physical and hit. It's the little stick penalties that, that are gonna get you the little, uh, you don't like stupid penalties that you don't want to take that, uh, usually find a way to come back and bite you. So, uh, physically it's not, it's not too hard. They're kind of letting both teams go at it as you've seen. So, it's, uh, no, it's not, it's not hard to stay engaged at all. Yeah, it's tough. It's tough. You definitely want it sometimes. But that's again, like you said, knowing how good their power play is and usually they find a way to call the retaliation, not the initial one. So you wanna, you wanna stop and stop yourself and really got to think about the bigger picture. Yeah, that was, that was something, um, I'm just glad that out of the way that could have been, that could have been a little scary for him. But, uh, yeah, I mean, I've, I've been on the receiving end of that and it's, I, I don't remember. So it's, uh, it's not something I want to see any of my friends go through. All right.
