I don't think anyone was surprised when Cat said he was declaring for the NBA - he had a terrific year and has a daughter to support. Who saw the Martin twins leaving? And now Abu is testing the waters. Abu is good, but not sure where he'd be drafted, seems like a second-rounder. He's not hiring an agent, so he can return to school.
I like the new rules that allow players to test the waters, but I bet there's more than one college coach reaching for the Tums.
Hope all players considering testing the NBA waters get good advice and ultimately do what's best for them. -

The Martin twins were probably gonna take a huge hit on playing time next season, so that's why it is a good move for both sides for them to find a new program. Abu is just taking advantage of the new rule that you can declare for the draft and test the waters multiple times. Once the season ends for the other acc teams in the tourney, other players that wouldn't have tested the waters under the old rules will be doing the same thing.

903 I kind of disagree. They saw plenty of time this year with one averaging 11 and the other 6. Its up too them if they lose their jobs next year to Henderson and Dorin. Think of the depth State would have next year. Now they have to sit out a year. Something isn't right in Raleigh. Is it the coach? Lewis, Washington, Lacy, Cat the Twins and maybe Abdu leaving the last 2 years. Lacy isn't in the NBA, Abdu isn't ready. Can understand Cat with the year he had and plus a daughter. CJ and Lorenzo Brown aren't in the league either.

Heard today with the twins leaving, it makes 10 players in Gott's five years. Some definitely saw decreased playing time on the horizon, but it's starting to be a lot of transfers. Agree that we'll see more players due to the rule change. Abu is goid, but could use another year of college ball.

Calipari is encouraging his whole team including the walk=ons to take advantage of the new testing the waters draft rules which is why Abu throwing his name in doesn't mean anything until he actually signs with an agent or he stays in after May 25th. As far as the twins go, they've seen who they are competing with for almost a whole season in practices so they should have a pretty good idea by now about where they fit in the playing time plans... From everything I've read, Henderson and Dorn are better. If their dream is to play in the NBA, they have to consider playing time first and foremost and not worry about giving Gottfried better depth... -

— Posted by 903 holes CHOKEDhearing thru the grapevine It was clear that is was more players divided into minutes Cody minutes were the issue but they are a package deal one leaves so does the other, they didn't seem to have an attitude or anything, believe is about playing only. The modern day player 90% think they are NBA material, when actually it is less than 10% and half of those don't pan out.

— Posted by Maxwell Silver IIIMartin twins seem like good guys - no attitude issues at all. I do wonder, since they are a package deal, if they will have a tough time finding a school that is a good fit, that can take them both. Hope it works out for them.
So true about 90% of players thinking they're NBA material, when the truth is that very few are. -

I think Abu get feed back that he needs another year- States starting five next year should be Smith, Henderson, Rowan, Abu and Freeman and B.J. should share the 5th spot and other off the bench. I understand there is a big man overseas Gottfried is looking at, maybe a couple of transfers - starting 5 looks good but relief off the bench could be a problem, I am not one that is blaming Mark it is just the way the modern day player is.

— Posted by 903 holes CHOKEDagree I think the replacements for Cat and Martins will be an upgrade(probably why the Martins wanted to transfer) Cat with Smith would have been great to see. I think Gottfried has gotten things in the right direction, he has elevated expections but still exceeds past coaches accomplishments-Herb had a ceiling and he was bouncing all over it but was never gonna break thru it. Lowe was a feel good story but was not a good choice- his hire was a last minute hire was hopes of it working out-I think MG's hire was a good hire if not what was wanted at the time, his hire kind of fell into Debbie's lap. State has storied history and a proud fan base and hoping before I am gone would love to see it elevated to back where it has been.

Lewis left and backing up at Butler. Purvis is at UCONN and starting. What if Henderson gets hurt again? If they are thinking of NBA then they can kick rocks. I guess wherever they transfer to they wont have to compete for playing time. UK, Duke, Kansas, UNC etc can reload. Cant State say that? You can play less minutes and still make it to the NBA. Ask UK!! Johnson, Booker, Lyles, Cauley-Stein, Harrison twins etc played less minutes and all are on NBA rosters.

That works for UK because they are on TV more than Leave it to Beaver reruns... or is that Duke?... -

Both are on a lot. I'm a firm believer in the scouts will find you no matter the school.

— Posted by Toddler10-21T - don't you think a plsuere at a high profile school gets a lot more exposure, better chance of playing in the Tourney, and therefore more opportunities for NBA scouts to see their skills? I know the players can try out for teams to show case their skills, but it seems playing for one if the P-5 Conferences gives a player a better shot.

Jay Bilas was on his soap box the other on Mike and Mike, talking about how college players are taking advantage of. Stun you are right the P-5 conferences gives a HS recruit an opportunity to learn and hone his skill with some of the best coaches in the business, then given a high profile platform to display his talents, he has some of the best instructors in the business. He said the colleges make millions of dollars off these kids, college make millions on the rep they have built I go to see the team no matter who plays, the universities also have to spend millions of dollars. The HS player can go overseas play for a year, play with AAU teams but will not get the exposure he can from college. If he is offered a scholarship he has the right to decline it but if he chooses to play college ball then he must abide by rules. Also the 90% that will not make it to the pros will be afforded the opportunity to better themselves.
