    Thanks B!

I don't talk much trash, and won't start now. State has way too much talent to have another game like yesterday's. They'll be dancing in March. A lot of their key players like Dennis Smith and Yurk ( not even going to try to spell that) hadn't experienced a rival game until the Carolina game. I bet they give Duke a good game - they usually do.

Some would probably say State has been disorganized since 1984. I wouldn't say that, but some probably would. Congrats....Heels looked very good.

I can't get the smile off my face. I did NOT see that one coming. To be honest, it was one of "those" games for both teams: State was disorganized, couldn't buy a basket and threw enough bricks to build The Donald's wall. Carolina played better than they have all season, and probably won't be that hot again. State will rebound from this game, and Carolina will come down to earth. Every team has this happen - no need for State fans to jump off the ledge, and no need for Carolina fans to push them off:) But I really did enjoy the game. I thought for sure in the second half Gott would have a plan to slow Carolina down, and while State did make a bit of a run, it was too little, too late.

As for football, the wild card games weren't very good. The Giants did keep it close in the first half, but Rodgers remembered he knows how to throw the ball in the second half, and the Giant's D had no answer.

Anybody see the massacre in Chapel Hill today? Anybody call 911? Anybody? Just need somebody...anybody...to reach out & dial a little. Anybody? Just 3 numbers is all we need...9-1-1. Gunny? Smitty? No need for snow plow trucks and de-icing chemicals if the Heels are gonna be that hot. State could have put the freeze on a new water heater.....Good Lord!.

Well if that's the case, please say one for my Heels' b ball team. They stunk it up at GT and are picking up where they left off at Clemson. At this rate, Roy will be in the bed next to K at the hospital.

All great points, B. You may worship at the altar of baseball, but you also have a lot of knowledge about football, so you must say a few "Hail Marys" on the way to your baseball altar:)

Yep....they have to figure out a way for him to avoid the hits he's been taking. I would imagine that, even with his size, that gets old after a while. Benjamin needs to step up his game, would help to have a healthy O-line, use more screens/quick passes/draws, for example, so they're getting the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible. You can still utilize his size/athletic ability in short yardage situations (3rd & 1 for example) but whatever they do, they have to reduce the hits he's taking. Regarding their D, have to have the ability to bring pressure off the edge. With a healthy Luke, TD, and the improved play of ST, they're rock solid at the LB position. Pass D was bad in 2016.

You're more optimistic than me, B. Heard on the post game radio show that Rivera realizes even Cam isn't getting any younger, and he will work that into his coaching plan next season. Not sure exactly what that means, but hopefully it will translate to getting Cam some help. O-Line was a mess due to injury and Cam continued to take hits. Look at the O-Lines on the Cowboys and Raiders roster. Would be nice if Can had that kind if talent. Getting Kalil back from injury will go a long way. Hope Gettelman spends some of that cap space. The Panthers have a lot of free agents to address. On D, I hope they hang onto Kawan Short. Hope they make good use of their first round pick. Panthers have a lot of talent, but also a lot of holes to fill.

    Happy New Year, B.

+1....I hope they get back to their winning ways and win a SB in 2017. There were some problems in Charlotte this past season but it's water under the bridge. All of the players need to understand that they're representing not only a city, but a state. As you're aware, there are lots of folks around the state, & country for that matter, who are having a difficult time. Truth is, they turn to Cam and others to make it through the week, month, & year. Seeing a Panthers win, or seeing Cam/Luke play well, for example, helps certain fans forget their issues or deal with them, if only for a short time. That may seem silly to some but it comes with the territory. Cam is a future HOF'er, imo, and Ron & Co. will figure this out. They just need to focus on playing football in 2017 as a unit and the rest will take care of itself, imo.

Can't disagree with any of that. If Cam is looking to work out some kinks, Cut would be a great source for obvious reasons. Generally when a QB is struggling with accuracy, it has a lot to do with their mechanics. Ex. - not setting their feet, stepping toward their intended target or stepping into their throws, rushing throws, not having a fluid delivery/motion, etc. Not much he can do when the pocket collapses and he has to make adjustments on the run.

Cam is one of the best QBs in the league and that is not up for debate. He's done some amazing things without question. If you compete long enough, you're going to hit a rough patch, or a slump as some would call it. Cam hasn't lost his mojo, imo, and I do believe he will lead the Panthers back to the SB & win. Just one of those seasons in 2016. In all honesty, I'd be shocked if Cam & the Panthers don't get back on track in 2017...too much talent and success not to.

I don't think Cam is over the "racial stuff" as much as he's just not one who can effectively convey the facts of the matter; plus, he stands to make a lot more sponsorship money if he puts a filter on his true feelings.

I thought your point of contention was, "dancing..." vs. "team wins, division titles, playoff appearances". I just believe that his personality and extracurriculars aren't the reason he's a flawed field general. If I'm not mistaken, there's a lot more dancing going on when he's winning.

Maybe some work with David Cutcliffe could do some good for his accuracy, among other things? I'll need more information before assigning any blame to a shoulder injury. Cam has already accomplished a lot, despite his accuracy struggles.

I can't argue that Delhomme's Panthers had a better SB showing than Cam's did, but I would like to point out the fact that Delhomme's completion percentage started with a 4. Yes,Cam lost the ball 3(?) times and didn't account for any touchdowns, but it wouldn't surprise me if Cam had to operate with a much more hostile pocket. Cam also didn't have the luxury of a WR who could run, catch, and finish like Steve Smith, yet he accounted for only 13 less yards than Jake.

    @Mitt & crew
Yes, everybody knows the Panthers have had their best moments with Cam behind center in recent years. With that said, they're out of the playoffs, Cam has a bad shoulder, or so we're told, he's been struggling in recent weeks with his accuracy, and the game at Tampa isn't going to do much for them. If he really is injured, why would he play under those conditions? It's a fair question, folks, so try not to get too upset.

Happy New Year from Bishop n friends

A deeply-held religious belief is a deeply-held religious belief, no matter who the believer is. Personally, I worship at the Church of Baseball, so I can't speak to who Yahweh may or may not be cursing at the current time.

However, it is safe to say Cam has moved beyond the racial stuff. If only his biggest fan could do the same.

That's good info., Mitt, 'cept you did forget something....

Pre-Cam.....a very close, competitive SB loss to Tom & the Pats.

Cam era - crushing defeat in Santa Clara at the hands of Peyton & the Broncos. Lost mojo...? Just messing with ya, Mitt & Co.

And I thought you were only interested in the dancing aspect of it. ;) Since we got that cleared up, let's figure out what to do with that 45% comp. rate over the last 6 games. What would you recommend?

Cam has played very well against TB throughout his career, so maybe this is just what the doctor ordered as the season comes to an end.

  • mittnfriends Dec 31, 2016

It's my deeply-held religious belief that Yaweh cursed Cam this season because he changed his tune about people being racially motivated in their hate for him.

Cam, in the midst of an MVP season = "I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing they can compare me to"

Cam, readying for a big-time MVP hangover season = "It’s not racism. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion"

Flamboyant personality and athletic success, especially in Cam's case, aren't always mutually exclusive.

Cam has been in Carolina for 6 seasons now. Prior to his arrival, the franchise was around for 16 seasons. He is the only Panther to win league MVP and 4th QB in NFL history to win 17 straight regular season games in the SB era.

Pre- Cam era = 46% win
Cam era = 56% winPre Cam era = 3 division titles
Cam ear = 3 division titles (*Cam is the only starting QB to win consecutive NFC South titles)Pre Cam era = 4 playoff appearances, 6 playoff wins, 1 SB appearance
Cam era = 3 playoff appearances, 3 playoff wins, 1 SB appearanceStay petty, my friends.

I don't see the Panthers sitting Cam - can you imagine his demeanor on the bench if they did? Let him play - season is lost. Only concern would be if he got injured (other than the one they're not admitting to - shoulder).

Can't argue with that. His performance down the stretch has been terrible. I'm sure there are those who will take his dancing over team wins, division titles, playoff appearances, etc. After all, he's just an entertainer to some.....lol

Agree with ya about the psyche stuff. If he were to go 22 for 35, throw a couple of TDs, it'd be a great way to end the season.

Bet those college players participating in bowls don't see them as meaningless. I don't see the point in having over 40 bowl games but it's not all bad. When I see a team get a W that hasn't had one in years, nothing wrong with that in the big scheme of things.

Next season.....the Panthers, as a team, need to stay focused on playing football, something they obviously failed to do this season. Their slide started the week of the Vikings game. Very talented team, elite QB, no reason they can't contend for another SB appearance.

Cam - his mechanics are terrible at times. Needs to stop throwing off his back foot, stop trying to throw bullets (a little touch goes a long way), get his feet right, and the comp. % will go up. And yes, others have been saying that all season...no surprise there.

The starters are going to play, imo. At least they have a chance to end on a positive note. As far as Luke goes, if they think he's ready, play him. He will have time to rest & recover after the season. Only Luke knows for sure whether he can go or not.

  • mittnfriends Dec 27, 2016

Unless the shoulder issue is severe, he should play.

He's still capable of providing plenty of the entertainment that NFL fans tune in for. Ending the season with a 60%+ passing game and a win would probably do wonders for the psyche of a guy like Cam.

His inaccuracy has been alarming, for sure. It's always been, and probably always will be, something Cam struggles with. Despite the fact, he's proven he can be a top-tier and winning QB. I think the only TE in NFL history to have 3 consecutive thousand yard seasons would agree.

And, please, stop with this "players should sit out meaningless games". Next thing you know, you're going to have college kids thinking it's ok. ;)

Agree about sitting Cam and players who don't have anything to prove. I don't think it will happen though. Cam will balk about being benched.

He had an MRI on his shoulder before the 'Skins game and supposedly he was OK. We'll probably hear the truth after the season is over, which thankfully, is less than a week away.

Kuechly may have cleared concussion protocol, but he doesn't look right.

  • DIAMONDBISHOP Dec 27, 2016

Word is, he has a bad shoulder, obvious accuracy issues down the stretch, etc. They should play all of the subs on Jan 1 & call it a season. However, if certain players have a chance to reach certain goals, I'd give 'em a shot to accomplish that. Otherwise, give the others some PT in Tampa.

  • DIAMONDBISHOP Dec 27, 2016

Cam's numbers look like this over the last 6 games...
14 of 33 vs the Saints,

14 of 29 vs the Raiders,

14 of 32 vs the 'Hawks,

10 of 27 vs the Chargers,

    21 of 37 vs the 'Skins (doesn't count - 'Skins D = HS D),

18 of 43 vs the Falcons,

That is a 45% completion rate over that time. Joe Namath is shaking his head at those numbers and he completed 50.1% for his career. Good Lord!
