I remember when State wanted Shaka Smart. He has Roy'a number. As I write this, they're stinking it up against UCLA. No defense and no rebounding. Coby White is the only one worth a flip last night and today. Hope they can get their act together.

Yeah I watched part of that game. I was glad also. Also watched Texas/UNC. always liked Shaka Smart. He doesn't have the 5 star talent, but his teams always play hard like at VCU. Actually I wanted State to hire him over Gottfried.

Top 3 players in the country and 1 2 3 in the draft. Let that sink in. No EXCUSES that they shouldn't win the title.

Agree, T. This Duke team is absolutely loaded - the most talent I've seen. His freshmen will be playing in the NBA next year. You're right about the excuses if they don't win it all.
-
Toddler10-21 Nov 17, 2018
Sports Legend
I guess its part of coaching. Nobody is as arrogant as K. Just waiting for k and his usual excuse if they don't win the title, " Don't forget I have all freshman". You recruited them. If you don't win with the talent its on the coach, but Duke K or Duke fans will never admit to that.
-
StunGunn Nov 16, 2018
Sports Legend
I don't think he's as arrogant as K either. I think he truly loves his alma mater and especially Dean Smith. I read that he was literally sick over making the decision - he'd wake up and throw up at the thought of leaving Kansas or saying no to Carolina again. Only my opinion, but if it wasn't for Dean directly asking him the second time, I think he would have stayed at Kansas. He was very happy there. I hadn't thought of your point of him wanting to stay for what he thought would be a championship team at Kansas, so you may be right. I just think it tore him up because either way, he'd be the villan. Read that some of his players took it really bad when he told them he was leaving.
-
Toddler10-21 Nov 16, 2018
Sports Legend
Although not arrogant as K the way Roy left Kansas. It's not that you couldn't say to no UNC twice. The real reason is that you had a championship team at Kansas and didn't want to leave that team so another coach could come in and win it with your players. Sort of the same way you won that first title with Doherty's team. Just my opinion.

Wow Max, you had good representation of the ACC all around you! I'll stick with UNC through good and bad. Lately with football, there's been a LOT of bad, but I still support the team. Those guys play their tails off week after week. Sure hope they get a W on Saturday. I really don't blame Fedora for everything, as he inherited a mess he didn't make. That said, it might be time to move on, but the buyout is huge. -

I remember OBD (Original Blue Devil). He was a nice guy. There used to be this other site at WRAL - it was a social site, where you could post about anything. I don't remember the name of it, it was taken down long ago because of some hostile posts. OBD posted on that site, and he had this montage video on that site, and it was cool. I remember we all had avatars back then, and would make bets with them and have to change them when our team lost. All good, clean fun. I remember "Truth B Known". He is a State fan, and he was hilarious. He hated Carolina with every fiber of his being, but I still liked him because if you showed State respect, he'd show you respect. Welcome, TIZU! -

It was a lot of fun attending an SEC game. Never experienced a football environment quite like that. UGA fans are a trip. We played 'em a couple of times in baseball & their fans had some of the best insults you'll ever hear. Had us laughing in the dugout. Duke's fans were pretty funny as well. Met him and Tommy and Bev (State fan - don't remember her screen name), to shoot the breeze several years ago. They don't post here because of all the reasons we just mentioned. Too bad. But I was glad to see Max started posting on the Canes site over the summer. Not sure why the Panthers site was taken down, but glad it's back up and running. At least we have these forums to talk sports, etc.
I remember that night with Hokie, and you DID give him every opportunity to just admit he was wrong about Kinston, but his ego wouldn't let him admit it. That was one of many times he lost his mind here. Hope he got professional help, because no joke, he needed it.

Not one of those fans who walks around w a Duke hat or anything. I do enjoy watching good teams play though, no matter who they are. I have reasons for supporting certain teams. Went with the 'Stros in the WS because they hadn't won a ring (despite the racial stuff that popped up, unfortunately) Pull for the underdog quite often as well. The Gobbler had real mental issues. He made it too easy to talk smack. B - remember the night he argued about what county Kinston was in? Then there was the night he listed his height and weight and how many weights he lifted. He got taller and lifted heavier weights with each successive post. It was hilarious. The ONLY solace I took in that SB loss was that Peyton walked into the sunset with another SB ring. It still burns my hide that the Panthers wasted a golden opportunity, especially for players like Thomas Davis who are at the end of their NFL career. Remember Davis' arm? What about female sportswriter abuse? Players need to focus their energies on winning titles. Serious fans could care less about the silliness that takes place during any given game. Just play the game & act like you've done it before. Afterwards, just answer the question and move on.
Speaking of focus, I remember the Panthers SB trip very well. The arrogance, the swagger, the sparkles and glitter, & the Broncos D that brought it all to a stop. From what I remember, some of the Panthers were acting like it was in the bag. How'd that go? Focus matters!

It still burns my hide that the Panthers wasted a golden opportunity, especially for players like Thomas Davis who are at the end of their NFL career. Remember Davis' arm? It looked like a football with those huge stitches. There he was, with a bad broken arm, still giving his all in the SB. Then you have Cam......
— Posted by StunGunnExcellent point about TD, Gunny. Remember the arm very well. In fact, my brother & I had that same discussion. This guy played his a.. off with a jacked up arm & Cam runs away from the ball. Stuff like that can't sit well with those who lay it on the line with no regrets. TD, Luke and the others deserved a ring...hope they get one. On the worlds biggest stage, you gotta get after it for 4 qtrs. The only thing that matters is winning.

I know this is hard for you PC-types to understand. As far as the spectators are concerned, he is a g--d--- football player. How many players who don't wear their emotions on their sleeve can say they led their team to a 1-loss regular season? Cam is who he is. Concern for the inconsistency of his public persona is a waste of time. If he starts affecting the public (i.e. spousal abuse, DUI, harassment, thievery, etc), then I can understand the need to speak fervently against this man's character.

Oh yeah, B - I remember that SB. Cam and some other players were already planning their victory party - BEFORE a single snap was taken in the game! I remember Cam sailing around the field in his golden cleats before the game started. All show and no go. They could have - and should have won that SB, with Peyton a shell of what he was in his prime. The Bronco's D won that game, and the Panthers gave away a golden opportunity to win their first SB. Who knows when they'll be in the SB again - if ever.

And that is precisely why I hate it when certain players go "all entertainment" on us before a big game, only to have it blow up in their faces as they're getting smashed. Wish these guys would just learn to stay focused, leave the BS off the field, and play ball. Knowledgeable fans don't care for the "entertainment" baloney. As I've posted before, not into watching football players dance. Only care to see them compete.
I remember the golden cleats as well. Made me laugh! Peyton dressed for the game but that was about it. Broncos D was sensational & they picked up another ring in the process.

— Posted by StunGunnI do wonder how things may have gone had the Panthers not received the big penalty early in the game as they were driving for a score. Thought it changed the momentum, set the tone. Broncos D was all over the Panthers that day though. Credit to 'em.

I was told by a couple of Panthers fans that they lost on purpose because of Peyton.
— Posted by Toddler10-21LOL....a Patriots hater told me recently that he thought the NFL conspired to give NE the win because of 9/11 (their first SB ring following 9/11). All I could do was just sit there & stare at him for several seconds. Had I commented immediately following his remark, it would have been a nice big insult. Had to dial it down & respond. SMH
