Asheboro High School will have a new head baseball coach for the 2025 season. The Blue Comets' athletic department informed HighSchoolOT of the opening on Friday morning.

Any interested individuals can email a resume to athletic director Wes Berrier at wberrier@asheboro.k12.nc.us and principal Dr. Ryan Moody at rmoody@asheboro.k12.nc.us.

The next coach will take over for Brett Hoogkamp, who led the team for nine seasons. Hoogkamp stepped down from the position this week so that he could spend more time with his family. The program posted an 87-88 overall record under Hoogkamp.

Asheboro is coming off of a 9-17 overall season. The Blue Comets made the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 3A West playoffs and fell to 2-seed West Henderson in a 3-0 ballgame in the first round.

The Blue Comets won the 1986 3A baseball state championship series over South Iredell and finished as the 3A state runner-up in 1993 and 1995.
