The San Francisco 49ers added a dynamic safety from North Carolina in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Malik Mustapha, from Weddington High School and Wake Forest University, was drafted with the 24th pick in the round. It was the 124th overall selection.

Mustapha was drafted three spots ahead of his former Weddington teammate Will Shipley.

Mustapha is a 5-foot-10, 209-pound safety prospect who recorded 22 bench press reps at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. He started his collegiate career at the University of Richmond. At Wake Forest, Mustapha recorded 175 total stops, three interceptions, and 10 pass breakups over three seasons with the Demon Deacons.

The safety helped Weddington win the NCHSAA 3AA state championship game in 2018 and in 2019 during his junior and senior years. Over those two years, he was credited with 132 total tackles and eight interceptions.

He was a selection to the 2019 HighSchoolOT All-West Football Team, of which preceded the current HighSchoolOT All-State teams.
