Former North Carolina State University swimmer David Curtiss is training at the Triangle Aquatic Center with the hopes of competing in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Of course, the top Titans have made quite a name for themselves in this facility. Olympic hopeful David Curtis currently trains in this pool and he hopes to be part of team USA who will also be training here ahead of the 2024 Olympics into the water and it's go time. Mere milliseconds is all it takes to separate good athletes from some of the best in the 50 freestyle. It's a very short event so mistakes really can't happen for David Curtis. His 50 freestyle is second major. My time right now is at a 21 7 that is not going to be nearly enough to qualify for the Olympic team. I know I'm capable of a lot faster and my goal is just to be as fast as possible. Part of that is having the proper technique right now. We're in a very heavy training load cycle. We're hoping to have somewhere around 8 to 9 Olympic trial qualifiers tag Titan's head swimming coach Bruce Maranda says he expects Curtis to be one of those athletes. It's really a dogfight. There's only two spots that occupy on the Olympic team for the 50 freestyle. A very slim chance but one he's willing to take the former NC State swimmer says he's ready to share his training space with Olympians, whether he makes the team or not. I just think it's going to be really cool, not only for me to see but also the community while he still has months to go before finding out whether he'll be an Olympian himself. Curtis says he's honed in on the present. I like to be very focused in the moment. Curtis says that he'll be competing at various national meets between now and the Olympic trials working as hard as he can to be a part of team USA in Paris Destiny Patterson or News.
